With the imminent departure of Sears department store on Central Avenue, an opportunity arises to replace the deteriorating building with new development that takes advantage of local history and contexts.
As part of my graduate application portfolio, I studied the neighborhood and proposed a mixed-use urban community that attempts to relate to area precedent - such as the Armenian Consulate building - and Armenian diasporic culture without isolating it, but rather conjoining it intimately with the surrounding neighborhood.
